Show Attractions At The Theaters r Charles Starrett, as a renegade who reforms, becomes sheriff and "wipes out" the outlaw band to which he had formerly belonged, returns Friday to the Ritz theater thea-ter screen in Columbia's newest outdoor action drama, "The Thundering- West." Iris Meredith is again to be seen as the popular popu-lar star's leading lady. Bob Nolan No-lan and his Sons of the Pioneers supply three muslical numbers and others in the supporting cast include Dick, Curtis, Ed LeSaint, Robert Fiske and Hal Taliaferro. Sam Nelson directed from a story by Bennett R. Cohen. With a cast of hundreds, topped top-ped by Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, "Dodge City," Warner War-ner Bros.' technicolor epic of the old West will open at the Rivoli theater on Sunday. A lusty drama dra-ma of the days when there was no law west o Chicago, it is crammed with thrilling action and colorful romance. Michael Cur-tiz, Cur-tiz, famous for his action pictures, pic-tures, directed from the screen story written by Robert Buck-ner. Buck-ner. Others in the cast besides Flynn and Miss de Havilland, include in-clude Ann Sheridan, Bruce Cabot, Ca-bot, Alan Hale, Frank McHugh, John Litel, Henry Travers, Victor Vic-tor Jory and a host of supporting players and extras. Amigos ! Senoritas ! ,The gayest, most gallant gun-fighter gun-fighter of them all is back! Warner Baxter again dons the sombrero and silver-mounted guns of his most famous character charac-ter in the 20th Century-Fox production, pro-duction, "The Return of the Cisco Kid," which opens Tuesday at the Ritz theatre. O. Henry's lovable outlaw, who inspired the greatest legends of the colorful West, meets his most thrilling adventures and his most beautiful senoritas as he rides back over the border in in his most exciting and most romantic film. But while a hundred posses hunt the bullet-proof bandit whom no jail can hold, and a thousand senoritas sigh for him, Cisco yearns for the one girl he can't have. Production Chief Darryl F. Zanuck gave lovely Lynn Bari her most important role to date as the beauty for whose love the . romantic bandit robted banks, burned down jails and generally risked his neck. Dashing Cesar Romero presents pre-sents a picture that is a far cry from his usual suave characterizations, characteri-zations, as Lopez, the Cisco Kid's faithful but bloodthirsty henchman, hench-man, while Henry Hull, who lately scored as irascible newspaper news-paper editor in "Jesse James," is seen as Miss Bari's sly but lovable old granddad. Kane Richmond Rich-mond is also featured as Cisco's successful rival for Miss Bari's heart, while others prominently cast are C. Henry Gordon and Robert Barrat. It must be awful to have a "crush" when you're busy dodging dodg-ing bullets, but that's the madcap mad-cap Withers way! It makes for exciting, madcap entertainment in "Boy Friend," Jane Withers' newest 20th Century-Fox comedy, com-edy, which opened Tuesday at the Ritz theater. The "Boy Friend" is what Jane's latest is about. The Hollywood Holly-wood hoyden has her first "crush" young George Ernest, erstwhile Roger of the Jones Family. When you're Jane's beau you have to be able to go places and do things, as poor George finds out. "What a girl friend for a boy friend to have!" he is moved to exclaim. "Give me a nice, quiet war!" As the "kid sister" of a two-fisted two-fisted young police officer whose exploits lead to the smashing of one of New York's most dangerous danger-ous gangs, Jane not only discovers dis-covers her first heart interest but also plunges into a series of dramatic situations that give her extraordinary acting ability. In addition she introduces a i brand new dance, "The Socialite," Social-ite," which makes the Lambeth |
