Show Springville Birthday Celebration Proves Of Much Interest Here In celebration of the eighty-eighth eighty-eighth anniversary of the settlement settle-ment of this city, the local camps of Daughters of Utah Pioneers : sponsored a public program at Memorial IhaU, Saturday afternoon. after-noon. A large group of D.U.P. roemters and other citizens attended. at-tended. Also commemorating the occasion, occa-sion, the city's main street and a number of local business con- cerns were especially decorated (or the anniversary date. The program featured a talk by Mrs. Ida M. Kirkham, president presi-dent of the state D. U. P. organization, organi-zation, Salt Lake City, who outlined out-lined a number of D. U. P. objectives, objec-tives, chief among which were the preservation of pioneer culture cul-ture and the development of an appreciation )of pioneers Mi's. G. VV. Mendenhall gave an interesting inter-esting review of the settlement of Springville. Other short talks were given by Mrs. Emma T. Walton and Mrs. Mary S. Stevenson of the state organization and Mrs. Roy Passey of the county group. Mrs. Robee Coleman also of the county organization, organ-ization, was introduced as a special spec-ial guest as were also a number of Springville pioneers. Other program numbers included in-cluded an original quartet number num-ber by Mrs. W. W. Brockbank, Mrs. Selvoy Boyer; Mrs. Mary Boyer and Mrs. Reed Rigtrup, accompanied by Mrs. Ida Bird; a pioneer reading by little Miss Pauline Boyer; vocal solos by Miss Shirley Peterson, accompanied by Mrs. Weight; a harmonica selection selec-tion : by Mrs. -Stevneson-and-con-fregational singing, led by Mrs. Earl Sumsion. Mrs. Josie Alleman, captain in charge, announced that all were invited to view the pioneer relics on display in the hall. She also exhibited a piece of flannel presented pre-sented by Mrs. Straw and said to be more than 50 years old, to bt placed in the relic hall. The prayers at the program were offered by Chaplains Myrtle Harrison and Mrs. Susie A. Boyer. |
