Show Local Farmers To Be Banqueted By Kiwanis Club Here Tonight BY WELCH RAREBIT Tonight at 7 p. m., the walls of the Memorial hall will echo fun, frolic and frivolity, when the annual banquet and get-together of representative farmers from Springville and Mapleton takes place, sponsored by the local Kiwanis Ki-wanis club. An interesting and entertaining program has been prepared with the main speaker lrom the Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. A good time will be assured for all, with candy for the children, but as there will be no children, there will be no candy. oOo Last Thursday. Merle Sargent was toastmaster at the meeting, and furnished a very fine St. Patrick's day program. Vocal solos hy Elden Sorenson and piano solos by Mary Bird were features. Prof. E. M. Rowe of the B.Y.U., gave an enlightening and enjoyable enjoy-able talk on Ireland and St. Patrick. Pat-rick. oOo Some people's idea of prosperity: prosperi-ty: Driving a mortgaged car over a bonded road to pay the installment install-ment on the radio. oOo In these changing times there is a responsibility on each of us. to do our little bit to make our club helpful to the other fellow. fel-low. Remember the motto of Kiwanis Ki-wanis is "We Build," whether it be friendship or membership or some community project. We believe be-lieve in practical idealism. oOo A few typical Kiwanis projects are: A Boy Scout cabin paid for and built by Kiwanians, that boys may learn to live and be good citizens. Shoes that those children in need might have warmth and get ttn education. 4-H Calf clubs inspiring young people to better things. Inter-club meetings causing friendly intercourse and understanding under-standing between clubs. A clinic for crippled children that little children might walk again. Ribbons and track trophies for schools encouraging the building Df healthy -bodies. An annual Easter egg hunt, wherein Kiwanians meet in the cold gray dawn of Easter morning morn-ing to scatter and hide Easter eggs for the children. oOo Last Friday, Kiwanians Cran-dall, Cran-dall, Conover and Welch journeyed to Salt Lake on club business. In the evening, they were enthusiastic enthusias-tic rooters for the Red Devils at the state basketball tournament. It was a team to be proud of, and although they were- not the final winners, they showed a lot of ability and the results of Coach Hughes' untiring efforts. Kiwanis congratulates both Coach Hughes and the boys on their 1938 showing. show-ing. oOo Kiwanis is 100 per cent back of the city campaign for clean - up week. A city is not a beautiful city unless it is a clean city. |
