Show Panthers Rated National Champs LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 (UE Pittsburgh, with an almost perfect per-fect record marred only by a tie with the Fordham Rams, held a mythical national football championship cham-pionship today by an overwhelming overwhelm-ing margin in the final Deke Houlgate ratings. The Golden Panthers led second place Alabama by 8.5 points for a total of 34.5. Fordham moved into third place with 24.5, followed follow-ed by Dartmouth with 22.5. Vil-lanova Vil-lanova and California took fifth and sixth, respectively. Yale, with the same numerical rating as California, was seventh .because of a defeat by Harvard. The weekly Houlgate ratings, based on opponent strength and decisiveness 'of victory, vjere completed com-pleted after last week's games. Other teams among the first fifteen fif-teen were Holy Cross eighth, Notre Dame ninth, Nebraska 10th, North Carolina 11th, Louisiana Louisi-ana State 12th, Duke 13th, Santa Clara 14th, and Vanderbilt 15th. |
