Show JOSEPH ALLEN SERVICES HELD Many friends and relatives were in attendance" at funeral services for William Joseph Allen, Sunday Sun-day afternoon, in the First ward chapel. Mr. Allen died Wednesday Wednes-day of ailments incident to his age at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lula Tipton. Bishop A. G. Peterson "ii-cl the services in charge. The speakers each of who pafd fine tribute to Mr. Allen, were, Bishop Joseph Storrs of American Fork, S. G. Salisbury of the stake presidency, President J. Emmett Bird and R. L. Mendenhall of Mapleton. Music was given by Glenn Hol-ley Hol-ley and Freeman Bird who rendered ren-dered two vocal duets; Elmo Coffman gave a vocal solo and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Brown, a vocal duet. The invocation was offered by A n Thorn, the benediction by patriarch John H. Manwaring; M. A. Boyer dedicated the grave at the Evergreen cemetery. Born in St. Louis, June 8, 1851, Mr. Allen crossed the plains with his parents, Joseph and Zillah Plair Allen, when a baby. He spent most of his life in Springville, Spring-ville, but assisted in colonizing and developing several other Utah towns. During his early married life he lived at Monroe. He was one of the first blacksmiths black-smiths in this vicinity and shoed a number of ox teams. He was a member of the old time mar-shall mar-shall band, which furnished much entertainment in the early days. At the time of the Springville bank robbery, in 1897, Mr. Allen was shot in the leg by one of the bandits as he pursued them to Hobble Creek canyon. As a result, his leg was amputated and he walked with the use ol a cane thereafter. He married Fanny Kindred March 31, 1873, in the endowment endow-ment house, Salt Lake City. Mrs Allen died in wccmi". Since that time he had lived with his children. Surviving are nine sons ana daughters. Mrs. Maude Chase, Provo- Mrs. Cora Motz, Mrs. Grace Harris, Salt Lake City; ToseDh Williams, and Ray Allen, Murray; W. Bird Allen, Salem; Mrs. Lula Tipton, Glen Allen and Ronald Allen, Springville; a sister sis-ter Mrs. Zillah Brown. Salt Lake City and 44 grandchildren. |
