Show Elder John S Wells Speaks At Kolob Stake Quarterly Conference Bishop John S. Wells of the presiding bishopric represented the church general authority at Kolob stake quarterly conference here Saturday night and Sunday. He emphasized the paying of tything at the forenoon general session and in 'he afternoon reviewed re-viewed the life of the Master. Mrs. Wells also attended the con-len-re atul spoke on "The Spun of Appreciation" and M..- I. A. work. The work of the priesthood was continued from the Saturday night meeting into the general session Sunday, with talks on the subject being given by Willis K. Johnson, Joseph lOrnesl Strong and Albert Hutchings. The latter reported that a total of 70 boys in the Aaronic priesthood had participated participat-ed in a sufficient number of church activities to entitle them to a trip to Zion anil Bryce canyons can-yons on July 10. Mrs. ' Hannah Mendenhall, president of the stake kelief societies, also spoke briefly during the forenoon meeting. In addition to the principal address ad-dress by Bishop Wells in thh afternoon, President J. Kn'.niett Bird gave a report on the work being accomplished by tt virions wards. President Fannie Kowland gave a talk in Y. W. M. 1. A. work and Howard Maycock spoke briefly. John Beat-son was sustained as president uf the Fourth ward quorum of Klders with Victor Frandsen, first counselor; Merle Sergeant, second counselor; Warwick War-wick Palfreyman, secretary. Music at the conference was furnished by the audience, led by W. Elmo Coffman. Julia Sumsioh was accompanist: Miss Helen Palfreyman Pal-freyman gave a vocal solo; John Hardy a vocal solo; Ralph Weight and Will Parry, an instrumental duet. The Second ward choir directed dir-ected by Ray Alleman, furnished several numbers during the afternoon. after-noon. The Sunday night meeting was under the direction of the slake M. I. A. with President Klovd Miner in charge. The M. I. A. stake chorus, directed direct-ed by v'erl Jones, gave two selections, sel-ections, and Newell Weight gave a trombone solo accompanied by Mrs. Bearna Coombs. Miss Valeria Holt of the First ward who 'represented this district dis-trict in the church finals of the Gleaner girls public speaking contest con-test gave her address on "Man is That He Might Have Joy." Aaron Mendenhall also gave an 'instructive 'in-structive talk on the M. I. A. slogan. |
