Show SOCIETY NEVS In honor of Miss Virginia Childs whose birthday was Monday, her sister Miss Olive Childs entertained entertain-ed a number of friends at a party in the evening;. A pretty decorative decor-ative color scheme in white and blue was carried out in room and at the tabic from which a nicely arranged supper was served early in the evening. Later cards were enjoyed with prizes given to Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Belmont of Provo and Mr. and Mrs. Erling- Roylance. Other guests included, Mr. .and Mrs. LeGrand Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomas, Miss Lois Moore, Harvey McCoard and Stanley Stan-ley Peay of Provo the honor guest, Miss Virginia Childs. A few friends surprised Mrs. Vernal Roylance at her home Saturday evening, the occasion being her birthday anniversary. A tasty luncheon was followed by cards in which high score prize was won by Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Allen. Other guests included, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fry and Mrs. Roylance. program was given. Mrs. Katie Jensen, a member of the general board gave an interesting and instructive in-structive talk on the value of M. I. A, work. She was introduced intro-duced by Mrs. Harold Allcman. Superintendent Floyd Miner presided. pre-sided. Vocal solos were given by Miss Hannah Rowland and Mrs. Janet Crandall entertained with readings. The affair was concluded conclud-ed with refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. G. , p. Kennedy and daughter Glenna of Salina were Springville visitors here Thursday. Fred Blackett of this city, left recently for Caliente, Nev., where he will be employed in power line construction work. Mrs. John Knox of Los Angeles, Calif., spent one day of the past week with her sister, Mrs. Lillian Huntington in this city. Mrs. Olive Miller entertained members of the Fidelity Bridge club at her home Friday evening. eve-ning. Luncheon was served followed fol-lowed by two tables of bridge. Mrs. Floss Cates won high score favor and Mrs. Ann Johnson, second sec-ond prize. Members in attendance attend-ance were: Mrs. Delia Dallin, Mrs. Mary Kelley, Mrs. Louise Whiting, Mrs. Faye Cranmer, Mrs. Floss Cates, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. Rose Roylance and Mrs. La Von Scott of Provo. Members of the Legion Auxiliary Auxili-ary were pleasantly entertained Wednesday evening at a program pro-gram and social at Memorial hall in connection with the installation of new officers which was under the direction of Mrs. Cleonda Miner, past unit president. Miss Virginia Rivers gave two readings read-ings and Miss Ilia Clyde rendered two piano accordion solos. Reports Re-ports were given on the recent state convention by Mrs. Bell Sumsion retiring president, Mrs. Emma Long, Mrs. Esther John-j John-j son, Mrs. Hilda Grant, Mrs.: G. W. Friel and Mrs. Floss Phillips. Mrs. Elsie Thyrett gave the treasurer's report. Following the installation, President Inez Chader gave a short talk. The program was concluded by refreshments re-freshments served by the hostesses hostes-ses Mrs. G. M. Haws, Mrs. Mabel Brown, and Mrs. Hazel Roylance. Announcement is made of the marriage of R. Valeo Blackett of this city to Ruby Mann Tumburas Jso of Springville which took place at Provo Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hutch-ings Hutch-ings of this city left recently to make their home in Riverton, Wyo., where Mr. Hutchings has accepted a position as instructor in the Smith-Hughs project work in the high school. They plan to be there permanently as Mr. Hutchings continues throughout the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson and son Lloyd of Salt Lake City visited the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Harmer. Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison in company with Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Krause of Salt Lake. City plan to leave this week on a vacation trip through the canyons of southern Utah and to Boulder dam. 1 Mrs. H. R. Otto and son Bobbie of Salina Kansas, is visiting her sister Mrs. A. W. Harmer and family in this city. I Mrs. Alton W. Packard and son Milan accompanied by Mr. Packard Pack-ard left the past week to make their home in Holbrook, Ariz., where Mr. Packard will be associated as-sociated with his brother M. O. Packard Jr., in construction work. Mrs. Packard has spent several weeks with her mother, Mrs. Hattie Blackett and other relatives here. A number of friends were delightfully de-lightfully entertained Wednesday night at a lawn party at the home of Miss Louise Clyde, Strings of vari-colored lig'hts added to the spirit of the affair which featured fea-tured games and a tasty lunch. Guests were, Dorus Wing, Lucille Oakley, Luella Huntington, Mel-ba Mel-ba Witney, Marjorie .Simkins, Bernice Chader. Helen Clegg, Helen Christensen, Wilma Brown, Carol Clyde, Malcolm Condie, Robert Jenkins, Richard Reynolds, Reyn-olds, Junior Johnson, Calvin Clyde, Allen Stuart, Donald Frandsen, Reed Fletcher. Mrs. Catherine D. Wills and little daughter left the latter part of the week for their home in. Los Angeles, Calif., following two weeks visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Dougall and other relatives here. ; Members of the Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club will hold the first meeting meet-ing of the year September 26. Mrs. Oliver Dalton will be hostess host-ess and the program, for the evening eve-ning will feature a paper on "Poetry" by Mrs. Birdella Bearn-i.on. Bearn-i.on. ' Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Packard Jr. of Phoenix, Arix., spent several days of the past week with Mr. Packard's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Packard in this city. Among the nicely arranged socials so-cials of the past week was one given at the high school by the M. I. A. stake board members for all officers and teachers in the M. I. A. and their partners. The group which included nearly a hundred, played games on the high school campus in the early evening and later assembled at the auditorium where a splendid a |
