Show CELEBRATION ATTRACTS MANY VISITORS Highlighted by one of the best Independence day parades in the county, Springville's Fourth of July celebration with its numerous num-erous and diversified program of entertainment, attracted thousands thou-sands of spectators from this and surrounding cities during the day. A daybreak salute ushered in festivities which were climaxed with an imported vaudeville performance, per-formance, displaying excellent talent, ball games, fireworks and the giving away of prizes at the ball park in the evening. In the afternoon, a band concert con-cert and a fine open-air program at the city park delighted a large crowd. Later under the direction of the recreational leaders, with cooperation of the city, an afternoon after-noon of sports was conducted for children of all ages. The parade which extended for more than a mile down Main street, was viewed by one of the largest crowds ever in Spring-ville. Spring-ville. Cars lined Main street on either side for many blocks and were parked for some distance on Second South street, which was also included in the line of march. A gorgeous float emphasizing a golden crown motif, designed by the Third ward under the direction of Lorell Johnson and featuring Miss Phylis Smart as queen with the Misses Isabel Leslie, Marjorie Child, Virginia Boyer and Yvonne Johnson as attendants, took first place while a unique and beautiful creation representing a large airplane in white and blue entered by the Main market, took second, and a delicately designed and beautiful float in pink and white portraying portray-ing Miss lone Nielson and her attendants as Miss Mapleton, look third. It was a difficult task to judge the floats, there being so many which called forth fine comments from the many spectators. Several Sev-eral outside ; celebrations and communities were represented with lovely entries and the response re-sponse by the various business concerns of this city was especially especi-ally gratifying to committees in charge. The chamber of commerce received re-ceived many expressions of appreciation ap-preciation and praise for the manner in which they handled the fine celebration and they in return express their appreciation apprecia-tion for the splendid cooperation received by local as well as the many outside concerns and individuals in-dividuals who helped mal the celebration a success. |
