Show Would Exterminate Autos ' A genuine solution to the traffic problem is offered. We fear it is the only genuine solution. 'What did the automobile do for this country last year?" protests a St. Louis, Mo., writer. "It killed about 25,000 useful use-ful citizens and that doesn't count the ones that died in bed from illnesses brought on by riding in soft seats instead of walking. 'Imagine what we would think if we heard of some distant dis-tant country where wild beasts roaming the roads killed 25,000 citizens a year. We would wonder why the whole population didn't rise up and wipe out the beast." Although Americans probably couldn't wipe out the rubber-tired beast, even if they wanted to. the extent of grief it brings them is hardly exaggerated. It is decidedly uncomplimentary uncom-plimentary to our national reputation for "common sense" that we make such poor use of so fine a product. |
