Show T. B. CAMPAIGN SHOWS RESULTS A persiaient campaign uj,rainst 1 tubi-Tciilosis among dairy cattle of Utah and Wasatch counties will be carried on by the farm bureaus, with u hope of advancing these counties into the accredited area, according to Lyman H. Rich, Utah county agricultural agent. If all the beef bulls, and purebred pure-bred beef cattle, 'and ten per cent of the bleeding cattle are tested and less than one-half of one per ccnt .are reactors, the county will have" reached the goal set. The greatly lowered percentage of reactors re-actors following consistent outlined out-lined programs has .given results in the past, and should put Utah county on the accredited list this yea.v, Mr. Rich explains. In Utah county in 192n nearly 7.000 lu-.ad of -cattle were tested, with over 1-1 per cent reactors to the disease, yet for the next two years more than 15.000 head were tested and ,the percentage of reactors re-actors fell in 1927 to one-sixth of one per cent because of the yearly tesls, Mr. Rich points out. The following year 1400' head were tested and the percentage of reactors also ran low, and due to -small numbers tested the .figure is hot significant. The significance of the figures itf seen' in .the' next fear of 1929. More than 16.000 cattle were: tested. aifdr'duO tq the Hissing of mot) cattleqhe'yeiir in , 928, the- 'percentage ; of reactors immediately rises to 1.3 per cent or 220 diseased animals. A consistent effort " was again taken up and, all :CCfttle tire tested, together .with thorough sanitation and disinfection of barns and prem- ises. The 1930 figures show the result. Of the 17,000 head tested, only 120 were reactors, or .7 per cent. Last year the thorough cleansing was given again, and it i is expected this year's results will be still better, j Dr. C. L. Jones of Provo is given nuich credit for the success of this work during the past few years, and he is regarded as an authority on tuberculosis among cattle by all who know of his work. |
