NEW YORK, Feb. 21 (U.R) The Roosevelt administration administra-tion swung into gear today to advance the date of the world economic conference and j speed agreements designed to stimulate foreign trade and I enable ' the nations of the world to help each other out of the depression. President-elect Roosevelt's action m announcing the appointments of his. two chief cabinet officers last night, coming after a series of conferences with foreign envoys, was. subject to no other interpretation interpre-tation than that the new administration adminis-tration was assuming charge of the nation's foreign affairs though technically the administration will not come into existence until noon March 4. Early Conference Planned It was made evident that Mr. 1 -.Roosevelt now hopes to make it ! possible to hold (he world economic j conference early in the spring, ahead of individual conferences j with European nations on revision tof war debts. This would make possible a complete com-plete reconciliation of the Roose-vrit Roose-vrit insistence that European nations na-tions make economic concessions in exchange for war debt revision, and Ihe British viewpoint that i hough debts may be considered individually, economic matters can j only be decided in joint interna- I tional conference. Senator C'ordell Hull, of Tennessee, Tennes-see, who will become secretary of state on March 4, and William A. Woodin, president of the American Car and Foundry Co., who will become be-come secretary of the treasury, were expected to start almost at once conferences with European ambassadors and ministers looking ! toward an early meeting of the economic conference. |
