Show UTAH STAKE IS SPONSORING PASSION PLAY The Utah stake has secured and is sponsoring for a two performance engagement, the "Great European Passion Play" in English, to be pro- i duced in , the B. Y. U. 'stadium at Provo August 24th and 25th.. Thousands of Americans every 10 years ai a traveling to Europe to see the Passion Play and now for the first time, this great play of all plays is to be shofn in Provo. The Passion Play first was played play-ed in the year 1264 in Freiburg, Germany and during the occasion of the plague was , given to Ober-ammergau Ober-ammergau in Bavaria whose inhabitants, in-habitants, during the terror of the black plaguet, almost were wiped out. Then was the time when the Oberammerguaers made a vow that if the still living people 'of the town should be saved from the plague, they, as a thanksgiving would present the Passion Play every 10 years. And so, since 1633 the Passion Play in Oberammergau is presented every decade. The Passion Players are a group of fifteen players, which-appear in ali the spoken parts and which now, are speaking the text in English Eng-lish as a special feature to the American public. The players, trained especially for their parts, are devoting their entiie time to the parts they play. The Passion Play is a literal translation of uie Bible and presents pre-sents the last seven days of the life of Christ on earth. The text is taken in its entirety from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and no religious creed that believes in the "divinity of Christ" can possibly find in it cause for offense. The players are devout Christians, who feel it a scahed duty to carry the divine teachings of our Lord to the word. |
