Show UNIQUE RITES I PLANNED FOR I CELEBRATION Letters Of Condolence To Be Awarded Prizes At Payson Fete PAYSON The days of "old man depression" : are numbered. Expecting his demise de-mise at any day now, the people peo-ple of Payson are making elaborate preparations for his burial services, to be held in connection with the sixth annual an-nual Golden Onion and Homecoming Homecom-ing celebration, Saturday,' Sunday and Monday,' September 2, .3 and 4. Extensive plans are being made by various committees, civic organizations, or-ganizations, and town officials to make the services fitting for such a notorious corpse. People throughout Utah are invited in-vited to these unique services, as well as to write letters of "condolence." "condo-lence." $15 111 Prizes Fifteen dollars in prizes will be awarded by the committee for the best letters written o nthe subject "Why I Know the Depression Is Over." There will be eight prize winning letters, with $5 for first, $3 , for second. $2 for third, and five prizes of $1 each. : Let ters must not be over 200 words in length and must be mailed mail-ed to Ray Wilson, Depression Contest Con-test Manager, Payson, Utah, before be-fore midnight Wednesday, August 30, 1933. Every . letter sent in will be buried in the casket with 'Old Man Depression" at the services to be conducted Saturday, September Septem-ber 2,. at sunrise. Adhering to Biblical teachings. which are that "we should mourn when a birth takes place and make merry after a death," a full three days of merrymaking will set under un-der way immediately following the funeral services. Events planned include parades, dances, basebr.ll. boxing and wrestling, special entertainers, en-tertainers, and thrilling thoroughbred thorough-bred 1 horse racing- at Payson's beautiful new $25,000 sports field. |
