Show WOUNDED MAN FILESACTION Youth Seeks $10,000 Damages As Result Of Shooting At Springville. ! Richard Coomes of Springville, through his guardian. Pearl Coomes. has fiied suit in the Fourth district court against George Harrison Har-rison and Floyd Bartholomew, to recover 510,000 alleged damages sustained when he was shot through the shoulder on the evening eve-ning of September 23, 1931. In addition ad-dition to the above amount, $1000 exemplary damages and $75 for medical attention is sought. The complaint Is the outgrowth of an effort on the part of the defendants de-fendants to protect their onion crop from thieves, according to information in-formation given to members of the sheriff's office following the shooting. shoot-ing. Shot In Shoulder The complaint recites that on the evening of September 28, at 8:30 o'clock, young Coomes was riding in a car in Madsen's lane, Springville Spring-ville precinct, when the defendants armed with a shot gun and a large caliber pistol maliciously assaulted assault-ed plaintiff and discharged the fire- arms with the result that a bullet j passed through the rear curtain of j the top of said car, then struck i plaintiff in the left shoulder and j emerged from the front, inflicting a serious wound, and then crashed through the windshield of the car. As a result of the wound the plaintiff has been unable to use his left arm, the complaint avers. Records at the county sheriff's office indicate that young Coomes, in company with George and Owen Rowland, had entered the premises of Harrison and Bartholomew. When ordered to stop, they drove their car into the line and continued con-tinued going." In an effort to shoot into one of the tires while running, one of the men shot high with the result that young Coomes was wounded, investigating officers reported. re-ported. No arrests were made in connection connec-tion with the affair, Sheriff E. G. Durnell states. |
