Work Shop The jail occupies two thirds of '- the original building, (he other 1 , pait being used as a work shop for I the county road equipment. I County Jail jj (Continued From Pace One) j age for the sheriff's cars in con- j nection with the shop. i The jail includes an outer jailer's office, connected with a private i"jom for the jailor, equipped with toilet facilities, and shower bath, a finger print and photographing room. A matron room, equipped with bath and toilet is provided, j and in the same connection a cor- J ridor that connects her room w;ith -the main cell block for women. j The juvenile quarters are located in the front of the building where two large day rooms are arranged, one for boys and one for girls. Each of these day rooms lead off to four small rooms where slefping npace is provided for . two juveniles in ; each room. The day room is i equipped with shower baths and , ' toilpt facilities. These two sections I are entirely separate except that the matron can pass to each room through a corridor and a small glass panel in the. door gives her an opportunity to make any observations observa-tions necessary without going into the room. No special arrangement has been made to make these rooms prison proof except that j guards have been placed on the windows. Separated from the main prison block is the women's cell, built entirely en-tirely of steel, consisting of a visitor's visit-or's room, guard's corridor, day room and cell proper. In the cell is space for sfx prisoners, with toilet facilities and bath provided. Steel Construction The main cell block is built entirely en-tirely of steel and all of the exterior- portions are built with tool proof steel, which is the latest thing of its kind. The steel was thoroughly inspected by local men who were unable to cut it with rack saws or chisels. In the main cel block is room for 40 prisoners, and consists of a visitor's room, a guard's corridor, safety corridor and five sleeping cells with eight bunks in each. The day room is equipped with steel benches and tables, also toilet facilities and shower baths. The locking device that is used in the jail is of the latest and best type, all doors being controlled from a control box in the guard's corridor. The various levers that are used are encased in an all steel box, equipped- with a combination lock. The. control is of full selective selec-tive type and it is possible to control con-trol one or all doors from the box. There is a room on the" side where a padded cell is provided, for demented people, where they can be temporarily lodged before removal re-moval to the state institution. The new jail is also equipped with a delousing cell. There are also other cells for solitary confinement if necessary. The former office building of the pump plant will be used as an office of-fice and home for the sheriff, also an emergency hospital, for minor injuries. VON BTJELOW DIES ; ROME, Oct. 28.
