Show 1 RELIGIOUS TRAINING IS E DETERRENT TO CRIME, SAYS I CONVENTION SPEAKER a i . Bishop Walter E. Eliason of Salt Lake City was the principal speaker speak-er at the Religion class and teachers teach-ers 'training convention of Kolob stake, held Sunday in the Springville Spring-ville high school in connection with the regular union meeting. The first meeting convened at 10 o'clock with a large attendance of Religion class workers from all wards of the stake. A discussion of problems connected with religion relig-ion class and teachers' training classes was held. Bishop Eliason stressed the importance of teachers being trained to teach classes in the various auxiliaries of the church, and that teachers must be prepared with the lesson ' to be taught before going before the class. In the afternoon session which began at 2 o'clock, Bishop Eliason continued his talk on "The Value of Religious Training." He stated that during the experience which Clar- j ence Darrow, famous Chicago attorney, at-torney, had had with criminals, he ' ( has never found one who has had practical religious training in his early life. He also sighted the fact that in a recent survey made of the penal institutions of the United States, eighty per cent of all criminals crim-inals had received little or no religious re-ligious training. Principal E. E. Knudsen of the local high school gave an intcrest- ing talk in the Relief Society department. de-partment. His theme was "Problems "Prob-lems of a Modern High School." During ihis discussion he stressed the importance of teaching a child the correct way of living during his early life, and that parents should set the example. He also stated that boys and girls of high school age should be given the privilege of using their own initiative as much as possible, and that it was indeed unwise for parents to dictate always. al-ways.
