Show FIRE DESTROYS JORDAN HOME Mapleton Dwelling Burned Before Springville Fire Department De-partment Could Reach It. . Fire which started in the chimney chim-ney flue completely destroyed the home of Fielding Jordan at Mapleton Maple-ton Tuesday morning about 11 , o'clock. The fire soon spread into the roof and with what water that could be supplied with buckets was i not sufficient to stop its spreading - so the neighbors who had come to render assistance used their efforts in saving as much of the furniture as possible by carrying it out. The Springville fire department was notified and made the run in 12 minutes from the time the alarm was given, but the roof fell in just after their arrival. Seeing that they could not save any of the house, their efforts were turned to preventing pre-venting the fire from spreading to the nearby granary, outbuildings and hay barn. They were successful success-ful in holding the fire to the confines con-fines of the house and probably saved hundreds of dollars damages dam-ages that would have otherwise been done. The furniture was practically all saved, though much of it was considerably con-siderably damaged. The brick walls of the house are all that is left standing. Damages will probably exceed $2,000. |
