Show CAMPFIRE PROGRAM IS DISCUSSED Enthusiastic Committees Report Re-port Plans for Indian War Encampment. Provo will have the larger and most unique celebration iu its history his-tory if the plans of the various com-' mittees iu charge of the third annual an-nual encampment of the Sous and Daughters of the Iudian War Veterans Vet-erans aud Utah Pioneers mature. The campfire will include four days, August 12 to 15, inclusive. Judging from the euthusiasm of 'the committees at the report meeting meet-ing in the juuior high school Friday Fri-day evening and the preparations j That have already been made for the celebration, the plans are certain to mature. Frank Dusenberry, chairman of the executive committee, reported that thousands of visitors will be at the campfire and urged the committees com-mittees to do everything in their power to stage a genuine affair, one which will live in the annals of the organization as the outstanding celebration cele-bration of its kind. He reported that he had been iu consultation with the traffic departments of the various railroads touching Provo and that assurance had been given by them for holiday fares to the ; celebration. ! Ralph Poulton was appointed chairman of the steering committee whose duty it will be to arrange the entire celebration and harmonize ; the time for the various activities. Large posters advertising the en-; campment have been placed in the different towns of the county, according ac-cording to Dean Twelves, chairman of the advertising committee. Ar-' rangements have been made for the placing of the posters in other parts of the state during the next few days. Invitations have already been forwarded to the veterans and the pioneers who will be the guests of the committee at the annual camp-fire. camp-fire. It was reported that some of the veterans have already arrived in the city and are visiting wTith relatives and friends in anticipation of the celebration. The parade committee, with David II. Loveless as the directing head, reported that plans were complete com-plete for the longest and most interesting in-teresting purade ever seen on the streets of Provo. The features of the parade will be the illustrations of pioneer methods of industry and activity. The method of transportation transpor-tation in the early days will be shown, as well as the evolution of the harvesting methods from the sickle to the latest mechanical device. One of the interesting things In connection with the parade will be the queen of the day, Mrs. John R. Twelves, attired as closely as possible possi-ble ns when she was the queen in the first real parade ever staged in Provo about 50 years ago. The sports and entertainment committee reported that arrange- ment had been completed for the j staging of a rodeo of the highest caliber. Already 36 head of wild horses and 13 prize winners of earlier rodeos in the intermountain section are in Provo in readiness for the encampment. Included in this entertainment will be an Indian attack at-tack on an old stage coach drawn by four horses. This event is said to be a very interesting feature of the celebration, which will be of I interest to the oldtimers as well as i to the young generation, i Two bands of Indians are also j coming to give several entertainments entertain-ments such as the sun-dance and I other Indian dances. Stephen Johnson, chairman of the program committee, reported that I programs would be given each ' morning aud evening of the four-day ! celebration. The first program will ! be the band concert to be given at Pioneer purl; Tuesday evening, August 12. J. M. Jones was selected as chairman of the concessions committee com-mittee to take the place of D. D. Sutton, who is leaving for bis vacation vaca-tion to southern Utah-some time , this week. All those desiring eon- cessions for the encampment I should get in touch with Mr. Jones. The parade will be given on the ' second day of the encampment, Wed-1 Wed-1 nesday, August 13. The finance committee, under the direction of Ray V. Wentz, are now collecting funds for the entertainment. |
