Show wi : - - How Cossacks Reverence the Law Observe how Mr. Hoover's plea for "reverence for law" i.t observed by the Cossacks. Note how they "choose which law they shall obey and which they shall violate." In Abingdon, Va., a 16-year-old college student is driving driv-ing . fully about his business. Three dry officers "suspect" he has liquor in his car. So ihey shoot him dead, in cold blood violating every law of the country and of humanity. Afterward, it is found that there is no liquor in the car, and the agents, with a .shrug of their shoulders, admit it is just too bad. And will the federal government seek to punish these Cossacks for violating the law? It will not. It will protect them. Federal attorneys will defend them, in a federal court, if they are ever brought to trial. That is the law and you are supposed to reverence it. How can a citizen reverence the law when those who ; enforce it wilfully and callously violate it and are defended ' against punishment by the government? |
