Show HIGH PRICE OFFERED FOR 1924 BEETS Springville-Mapleton Sugar Company Enters Agreement Agree-ment With Association. The Sriringville-Mnpleton Sugnr company, through W. Lester Mangum, Man-gum, president of the company, has filtered into an agreement with the Utah State Beetgrowers association to pav to the growers 50 per cent on the profits of 1U24 sugar, with a minimum of $0 a ton. A similar agreement was entered into between be-tween the association and several other sugar companies, according to Mr. Mangum. On beets delivered during the 1922-23 campaign the Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton Sugar company paid to the beetgrowers $S.-iS per ton as compared with $8.02 a ton paid to beetgrowers delivering beets to other companies in the county. The agreement entered into between be-tween the growers and the companies com-panies for 1024 is virtually the contract con-tract for which the majority of beet-growers beet-growers held out in 1923, but which they were unable to obtain at that time. Last year's initial payment was $5.50 with a guarantee of a ' - 48-52 division of the profits on sugar, su-gar, the grower taking the smaller per centage. Thus far the Springville-Mapleton Sugar company has paid $6.50 cents a ton for beets delivered during the 1923 campaign. Before the end of February, according to Mr. Mangum, an additional payment will be sent to the growers of the company. "It looks as though the beetgrowers beetgrow-ers will be paid a higher price for their 1923 beets tJrnn they received for those delivered in 1922," said Mr. Mangum, "If the present price on sugar holds out the farmers will be paid in all about 59 a ton for the b ets delivered during the 1923 campaign." . Part of the agreement entered Into In-to between the sugar companies and the Utah State Beetgrowers association asso-ciation stipulates that the association associa-tion will do everything in its power to stimlate interest among the farmers in the growing of sugar beets. It is believed that the tonnage ton-nage will far surpass that of last season. |
