Show PEACH BORER REMEDY GIVEN The peache tree borer does a great deal of damage in the orchards orch-ards of this county each year. There are a great many trees which should be treated for the insect in-sect within the next week or wo. The moth had deposited her eggs and most of them have hatched, nnd the little borers are working in the trees by about Sept. 10. Paradichlorobenzene, a white crystalline material, has been found most satisfactory for peach borer control. This should be placed in a circular trench around the tree, on the surface of the ground and 2 or 3 inches from the tree. In the past worming, that is, by picking the worms out with some small tool, has been the method of eon-trol, eon-trol, but this has not" proven to Le as satisfactory rs th? chemical, for in many cases more damage is done 1 uy careless workers than is dene hy the insect. The following treatment is recommended recom-mended by the Utah state board of agriculture: Trees up to three years old should be hand picked instead in-stead of applying the chemical. Paradichlorobenzene is used as follows: fol-lows: 3-year old tree, ounce; 4-year 4-year oid tree, ounce; 5-ycar old tree and over 1 ounce. The pjira-dichlorobenzene pjira-dichlorobenzene can bs obtained at the agricultural office, room 111, city and county building, Provo. Utah, also Carpenter Seed Co.. and the drug stores. |
