Show I ! Society j MRS. J. F. WIXGATE Reporter The Alpha Beta club met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Glen Neil. A talk on "Our Daily Speech." was given by J. F. Wingate. after which Mrs. Ellen Whitmore Anderson Ander-son snng. Mrs. Ada B. Straw spoke on "Correct and Better Speech" and Miss Virginia Whittaker gave a reading. Aside from the club members, mem-bers, the guests included Mrs. Ray Hansen, Mrs. Wallace Mace and Mrs. Seymour Mendenball, Jr. M. F. Miner, Betty Joe Memory and Paul Jensen were the guests of honor at a birthday dinner given by Mrs. Vnnda Jensen, whose birthday birth-day was also being observed, at her home in Mapleton, April 14. The members of the three families were present. The color scheme was pink, the dining room being decor.-nted decor.-nted in that color, with pink sweet peas forming the centerpiece for the table and a pink birthday cake having hav-ing candles in pink holders. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Whiting, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Thorn and Miss Or-pba Or-pba Deal motored to Salt Lake, Og-den Og-den and Morgan Thursday. Mrs. R. B. Treadway entertained the Kensington club at her home Thursday afternoon. There were nine members and five guests present. pres-ent. Sewing was followed by refreshments. refresh-ments. The S. T. club met Thursday evening eve-ning with Mrs. Lee Sumsion. There were three tables of progressive Bridge, with Mrs. Harry Pennington Penning-ton winning high score. The hostess host-ess served luncheon at 11 o'clock. ' Mrs. C. F. Packard was hostess to the Home Culture club Friday afternoon, with twenty members and one guest present. Prof. A. J. Jncob-sen Jncob-sen spoke on "Art, as Related to the Home." Miss Mary. .Wainwright sang a solo, accompanied by Miss Josephine Sanford and James K. Booth gave two vocal selections, accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Booth. Miss Louise Coffman gave two humorous readings. Following adjournment the hostess served refreshments. Mrs. E. J. Northup and Mrs. Mary Graham have come from Salt Lake to join Mr. Northup, agent at the Orem depot, and will make their home here. ' Mrs. D. H. Madsen, of Salt Lake. Mrs. William' Witney and Mrs. Earl Phillips had luncheon and spent the afternoon with Mrs. Joseph Allen Friday. In observance of his forty-eighth birthday, relatives of Deal Blackett surprised him at bis home Saturday evening. Gaines were played and refreshments served. Prof, and Mrs. A. B. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. G. Wesley Browning, all of Salt Lake, and LeConte Stewart of Ogden were in Springville Sunday Sun-day and visited the art gallery. Prof. Wright, Mr. Browning nd Mr. Stewart are three of the artists exhibiting ex-hibiting this year. Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Rowland and Reed Rowland spent Saturday and Sunday in Salt Lake. Jay Anderson gave a chicken supper sup-per for the 'M" men of the Second ward at his home Saturday night, with twenty-two present- The program pro-gram of toasts and witticisms was carried out during the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tuckfield and two children, of. Salt. Lake, visited in Springville Sunday. Mrs. II. V. Sorenson, of Fairvlew, is spending the week with her daughter, Mrs. John R. Anderson. Mrs. W. L. Grooms and Mrs. Wm. N. Grooms visited ' Mrs. G. Ray Hales in Spanish Fork Tuesday. Miss Bessie Wannacott and Miss Frances Wonnacott will leave Friday Fri-day morning for Portland, Oregon, whore they will remain for two weeks, the guests of Mrs. James E. Stanton, who was formerly Miss Verna Brown. On their return journey they will visit relatives in Pocatello, Idaho, and Logan, Utah. |
