Show Dollar a Minute To Talk One dollar a minute to speak! That w.-ts the price paid by President-emeritus George II. Brimhall, of the Britfham. Young university, for the privilege of speaking in favor of the "Y" student loan fund, Friday morning. On the sophomore program that was held at devotional period, Dr. Brimhall was listed to speak. "I want you to hold your watches on me," he announced. "I am willing to pay into this fund one dollar for every minute more than five that I use this morning." morn-ing." The students pulled their watches and Dr. Brimhall began upon one of his characteristic stories. When he was through with that one he was told that he had used eight minutes. "But I am not through yet," the speaker said; "I have another story." He then launched into an Indian story. An Indian had his leg amputated, the story went. When the stump was well, the doctor said that he should get him a cork leg. "Can't," said the Indian, stoically. "No money." "Go to reservation, pet other Indians In-dians to help; get squaws, uet young men, pet everybody to give a little and you can buy your leg," the doctor said. "Humph, Injun don't give, only white men give money!" the Indian answered. Dr. Brimhall ran over his allotted al-lotted time seven minutes, but said it was worth it. |
