Celebration of the opening of the mills of the Columbia Sled corporation corpor-ation at. lronton, Utah county, will be hailed as the biggest; Jhing that has happened in Flah ii'dns- i trially since the advent of the railroad rail-road or the development of the Utah Copper company's properties at Bingham. Plans to this end were initiated Saturday at a meeting in the board room of the state eapilol, called by Governor Mabey. It was predicted that anywhere from ;:(UHH) to r.O.ODO persons will attend the celebration. The thought was expressed at the meeting by E. S. Hinckley, secretary of the Provo Chamber of Commerce, that, "as time passes, possibly it. will be definitely shown that the steel industry is the greatest thing in the slate." How to give proper recognition to the event was the problem before the mooting. In thanking the rep-resenta rep-resenta lives from various sections of the state. Governor Mabey said the celebration, as proved by the spirir of the mooting, will be an unbounded un-bounded success. 'I would like to have you carry back to the communities and organizations orga-nizations you represent," said the governor, "the enthusiasm you have displayed here. Represented on the central com-, mittee will be the Columbia Steel j corporation, the Associated Industries, Indus-tries, the Utah Manufacturers' association, as-sociation, the Utah State Farm Bureau, the Utah Bankers' association, associa-tion, the Utah chapter of the American Ameri-can Mining congress, the Union Pacific, the Denver & Rio Grande, AVestern and the Salt Lake & Utah railroad systems, Utah county, Salt Lake county, Weber county, Iron' county and Carbon county. It was indicated that the celebration cele-bration will probably be held late in May or early in June. Mr. Rains said that the company hopes to be making iron by the latter part of April. He added that it is desired to have the directors of the corporation corpor-ation present at the celebration and that a date toward the end of May .would in all probability bo more suifanie 10 he-icthnn one in April. He will write his associates "antr-i ask them to fix a suitable time. Something of the program to be followed was also discussed. Mr. Rains suggested an address by Governor Gov-ernor Mabey for the state, another! by some representative of Utah county and one by W. E. Creed of , San Francisco, president of the eor-1 poration. Music will be a prominent feature of the celebration and a movement was initiated to have every band available present. Ample parking space for automobiles automo-biles will be provided along the hi'l-iside hi'l-iside and a piece of property now owned by Salt Lake interests, the Alderman Real Estate company, has been formally offered as the site for the celebration. It adjoins the plant. |
