Show Old Stuff, William Mr William R. Hearst announces a discovery, thus: "It' is obvious, too, in the light of the inside history of World war finance, which Ambassador Walter Hines Page revealed, that it is the plain people who make the sacrifices ' in war and the high financiers who make the money." Heavens, William, that's what war is for ! It has been the self-evident "aftermath" of war, ever since the first war. The plain people sacrifice and the higher-ups make money. Not one gleam of novelty in such concept of war. The thing . is so 'evident that some of the plain people favor the reverse making the money do the sacrificing. That would be novel and it would have a strong tendency to restrain the war spirit. Does Mr. Hearst purpose to make war not worth while to the profiteers? Why, he would be striking at the very roots of war. |
