Show BIGGEST FREE BARBECUE IN UTAH'S HISTORY IS PLANNED FOR UTAH ST EEL DAY, JUNE 7 The biggest barbecue ever served a hungry public will be that on Steel Day, June 0, when it is expected that 25,000 visitors wiU oin Provo and Springville citizens in celebrating celebrat-ing the birth of the iron and steel industry in-dustry in Utah. The final word for the barbecue was spoken at a meeting of the general gen-eral committee in Salt Lake Thursday Thurs-day afternoon, when the financing program was planned and a portion of the cost underwritten. E. S. Hinckley, secretary Provo Chamber of Commerce reports an awakening of Steel Day Interest in Salt Lake City. "We decided to raise $3000 to finance the advertising and eating campaigns," Mr. Hinckley said Saturday. Sat-urday. "Following the suggestion of Mr. Armstrong we apportioned the estimated cost among all the businessmen's organization of the state. Secretary Myron Crandall, Jr,. of the executive committee was instructed to pro-rate the money and to ask every club in the state to come across with its share. 'Posters and cards are to be printed print-ed and scattered all over Utah and a part of Idaho." David D. Sutton is to have the superintendency of the job of free-1 free-1 feeding the hungry on Steef Day. He is to slaughter enough beef and provide enough buns to feed 25,000. The barbecue is to be a dual affair, service being given in both Provo and Springville. L. F. Rains, vice president of the Columbia Steel corporation was very insistent about the quality of the beef to be served free. "The beef must be of the very best corn fed steers," Mr. Rains urged. "And the sandwiches should be served hot in both cities." Mh. Sutton said this would be done and that every Provo and Springville bakery would be worked overtime producing buns. Not only will the inner man be fed and well fed on Steel Day, but the idealistic element in humans will be catered to. There'll be plenty of music. Two Salt Lake bands will be brought down by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. Ogden is to send a band. Provo contributes the noted Provo band and the high school band. The ladies band of Ephriam and other bands, too, will be on hand to assist in parade and free concerts. Springville probably will have a baseball game for an afternon attraction at-traction and Provo wTil put on a rodeo at Timpanogos park in the early afternoon, to be followed by boxing and wrestling matches. |
