Show silk industry the ladies of with the pleasing characteristics of that city have pushed ahead in the silk industry and last year they raised over a hundred pounds of cocoons they now want it reeled and have sent to us the following letter of inquiry editor enquirer utah feb the ladies republican club of has been a band of busy workers ever bince their organization during the past summer we raised ibs cocoons holding oar weekly meetings and making articles both useful and ornamental for our fair which was held in november we have purchased a row of mulberry trees and with the profits of our fair and the bounty received from the state we have a neat little sum in the bank all of which is to be used for a further test of the silk industry in we are greatly interest eu now cornea the first hitch we wish to reel the silk by hand we have written to different members of the silk commission to try to find out when wa may expect the promised bv the state to those raising ibs of cocoons but have been unable to learn anything definite can yon tell us anything about it or refer us to any one that can we are truly in earnest but we do not wish to raise cocoons simply to look at and care for we want to have our silk reeled that we may either make it into cloan or dispose of it it we can do this before time to begin another seasons work of curing worms our ladies will be encouraged to go on I 1 believe this to be as great an industry as the beet culture hoping that you will be able to give some on this subject I 1 remain yours truly M V N HALL pres L E 0 of besides tha examination etc of the econs co by the bilk commission the law further says it shall also be the duty of said commission to cause to be published in book or pamphlet form explicit instructions in all the practical branches of sericulture for free distribution to the the state also to provide reeling in each county one bundred rounds of cocoons to provide reliable bees and in every way encourage those engaged in this industry and provide the best possible market for silk and cocoons until it can be consumed by the manufacturers rs of our state that is the cold provisions of the law and we thought the silk commission was complying with it instructions should now be furnished this county in reeling if that means that a practical should be sent down the silk commission should at once afford that assistance we would suggest to the president of the club that the matter be laid before the governor besides having a deep interest in the silk industry it is his duty to see that the law is fully complied with an appropriation is at the disposal of the commission each year and we know of no excuse for not furnishing the ladies of this county the instruction demanded |
