Show wool interests condict Conni ct feb 10 representatives of ane national association of woolen manufacturers and the manu today had a conference with the wool committee appointed by tha national association yesterday the conference was devoted to a general discussion of tho proposed wool and woolen ached die the wool assert that at though the interests odthe growers and manufacturers ure in a measure altae they are willing the manufacturers abhau get is aih a rate on their goods as possible but they insist the interests of the growers shall receive proper recognition tonight there was a conference between committees from the manlutac and growers at which the former submitted as a aisis ol 01 united action of the allied interest the following aa proposed rates under the tariff bill now in course of preparation first class valued at less than 16 cents per pound S cents per pound valued at 16 cents or over 10 cents per pound doublas duty if washed and triple ie an wools of the second class valued at less than 16 cents 9 cents per pound over 16 cents 12 cents per pound the manufacturers themselves as willing to support these rates in behalf of the interests represented by the wool growers This was not satisfactory to the growers and after a brief discussion ivr tha contested points the conference adjourned adour ned without having accomplished complis hed anything thereupon two of the growers 7 association assembled for the purpose of determining what should bo done in view of the exciting elate of affairs after a long session the committee of seven heretofore appointed was authorized to submit to the manufacturers a schedule of rates stated by agomo of the growers to be an ultimatum somewhat modifying the demands originally submitted by the growers for incorporation into the new tariff these are for slightly akse rates of duty athe growers concession as they felt they could for the sake of harmony and which they hope the manufacturers will support the association refused to make the rates public before they submitted to the manufacturers |
