Nelson, and his wife of Glendale, California, have presented the Springville Spring-ville Hafen-Dallin Club with three paintings, one by Springville's beloved John Hafen, according to Mrs. Mae Huntington, former president of the club. The only stipulation which came with the contribution was that the pictures must be hung in a public gallery. They are therefore to become a part of the high school's permanent perman-ent collection, Mrs. Huntington Hunting-ton said. thp forma.l nresenta- tion to be made at the time of the opening of the April Art Exhibit. The painting by Hafen is an oil entitled Brighton and is a beautiful Wasatch mountain landscape, painted the doner believes, while John Hafen and Mr. Brighton spent time in the out-of-doors both admired. The other two pictures comprise com-prise a still life and a portrait of Simon Bolivar, South American Amer-ican hero. All three are excellent excel-lent pieces, Mrs. Huntington reported. Mr. Nelson who was born in American Fork in 1899, reported re-ported in his letter that he became interested in making the contribution after reading a news story telling of the Hafen-Dallin club's interest in the art project and of one of their contributions. He reported that his sister met and married Leo Hafen. a son of John Haen in 1907 and she passed away in 1908. Mr. Nelson's parents and the Hafens were friends and he said the Nelson family had a number of Hafen Paintings received as gifts or through purchase. Mrs. Harold Whiting, currently cur-rently serving as president of the Hafen-Dallin club, received the three paintings from Mr. and Mrs. Nelson in behalf of the club. |
