Show A public hearing was held by the Springville city council on the proposed pro-posed Southeast addition of property to be incorporated in the city at the Monday night meeting with all members mem-bers of the council and mayor present pre-sent Citizens were heard, expressing express-ing their views for and against the proposition to annex. Property owners own-ers favoring annexation were: Robert Ro-bert Palfreyman, Amos Dallin, and Bvron Cottam, while, Leon E. Hut-chin-s and Cloid Hatfield were not in favor. The matter was taken up it the council meeting which followed follow-ed the hearing. It was moved by Councilman Clyde and seconded by Councilman Peay the Southeast addition addi-tion annexation ordinance no. 74 be Passed. The voting was four ayes with Councilman Crandall voting nay. The motion passed. New officer Mayor-elect Paul Haymond and councilmen-elect David Friel and Omar M. Hansen sat in on the coun cil meeting along with Lloyd Ash-craft, Ash-craft, recorder and attorney Robert Sumsion. An official tabulation of the election elec-tion results showed the following totals: to-tals: Citizens ticket Nielson, mayor, may-or, 1,139; councilmen, David Friel 1,482; Omar M. Hansen 1,506. People's Peo-ple's party mayor, Paul M. Haymond, Hay-mond, 1.465; councilmen. Louis L. Schardine 997; Floyd W. Stewart 1.248. Other votes cast for mayor on write ins: Harrison Conover 24, B'aine Clyde 1, William G. Ruff 2, Ray Nichols 1. For city councilman write ins: Harrison Conover 1. Votes cast for Fluoridation 294, against 2,298. New crosswalk Chief of Police Ashley Graham recommended re-commended an adult crosswalk guard to be placed at the Brookside School and another crosswalk placed at the entrance to Brookside and a state approved light on each side of the Brookside School. The recommenda tions were approved and the Chief was authorized to appoint the guard. Mayor J. Emmett Bird reported the third well being drilled to a depth of 430 feet. The Mayor was also authorized to sign a quit claim deed to clear the title on the two lots in Kellys Grove being purchased purchas-ed by the Shriner's Club. The Bond furnished by Theron Hall for the street improvements in Hall's Eastern Hills subdivision soon to expire, the Council agreed it should be renewed and sufficient money mo-ney put in the bank in escrow to guarantee the improvements. It was moved by CI. Clyde and seconded by CI. Crandall the resolution resolu-tion be adopted authorizing the establishment es-tablishment of the Board of Equalization Equal-ization and Reviews composed of three council members, Clyde, Crandall Cran-dall and Peay, to consider any corrections cor-rections or adjustments of the assessed as-sessed property owners in Improvement Improve-ment District No. 9. They will meet for this purpose in the city hall on the following dates and times: Dec. 6, 4 to 6 p.m.; Dec. 7, 4 to 6 p.m.; Dec. 8, 4 to 6 p.m. It was moved and motion passed unanimously to have Attorney Sumsion inform the property owners own-ers abutting 1050 East Street, it is not recorded in the County records and should be prepared and accepted accept-ed by the city as a road dedication. Budget hearing Willard Smith of the auditing firm met with the Council and Department Depart-ment supervisors to consider and estimate es-timate the budget for the first six months of 1962. The budget hearing will be held Dec. 18. The council also approved the northwest corner of the City cemetery ceme-tery as a suitable location for a substation. Christmas street lights will be hung and ready to turn on Dec. 1, the council decided. |
