Show utah is heard from washington D 0 jan 7 special to tribune owing to the adjournment of the senate today over until monday the expected hearing upon senator cannons uncompahgre resolution will not take place friday senator cannon said this evening that he hoped to get another agreement with the other side as to a day on which the matter can be taken up and believes he can call it up some time next week jesse M smith of layton utah president of the utah wool growers association whose address yesterday before the ways and means committee on behalf of the wool growers is considered unusually strong was on the senate side of the capitol this afternoon mr smith had a consultation with senator cannon relative to the position which he has assumed in opposition to the so called manufacturers schedule in which he found senator cannon in full accord with himself he invited senator cannon to attend the conference of the wool growers to be held at the ebbitt house this evening and received an acceptance dependent upon the condition of mrs cannons health senator cannon agrees entirely with mr smith that the wool grow ers should insist upon complete and adequate protection in the tariff bill now being formulated and indicated that such an attitude would receive his in dor in the senate |
