Show TRAGIC SUICIDE H A radix ac lion at salt lake H A a prominent young nan of butto took his own life yesterday af the wey hotel in this city under circumstances as sad as they were thrilling mr diedenhofen Nieden hofen came to salt lake about four weeks ago for rest and recuperation accompanied by his wife he had been bual for some time troubles which culminated at length in nervous pros tra tion and ho wag brought to this city with the hope that the change of climata and absolute quiet for a time might result in a battering of hia condition after a week or so in this city mr diedenhofen Nieden hofen became much better and it was hoped that he might shortly be able to return home yesterday be was feeling BO well that he determined to go to the with a number of friends al 2 a the party waa about to start mr nied 1 enhopen enhofen excused himself and ran quickly upstairs he would be back in a moment As did not return for soma time hie friends became anxious and edward potting of butte who has been here with him for tho last week or more went up to look for him not tending him in bis room mr potting went to the window and looking out saw climbing the fires escape toward tha roof an alarm was quickly given and mr potting climbed out apon the firdes cape to follow hia friend while fred proprietor of the hotel hastened upstairs and opening the scuttle climbed out upon ane roof meanwhile his friends cries and warnings had ascended quickly to tha roof and on reaching it had seated himself on the rear edge with hia legs hanging over the eaves only an instant did he remain thus and before hia now thoroughly alarmed friends could reach him he took a firm giamp of the edge of the roof and lowered himself until he bung at arms length between the roof and the ground forty five feet below mr wey and mr potting were close at hand by this timo but they were too late for the unfortunate mans hands began to relax te r grasp upon the roof the fingers of one hand slipped he hung a moment swaying and then dropped io the pavement below he aruck upon hia dar and head lay there huddled in a heap for an instant nhsn partially rose only to fall back motionless tribune |
