The champion contests for the Kiwanis city-wid- e Marble and Hopscotch tournaments were held at Brookside School last Friday afternoon. Only Janice Garrett of our school won a prize. She came in sec-ond in the Hopscotch Tourna-ment. Hopscotch winners for this school were: Janice Garrett, fifth grade, first; Sherry Py-pe- r, fifth grade, second; Kathl-een Bredesen, second grade, third, and Marilyn Van Orden, sixth grade, fourth. The Brookside blacktop was painted Saturday by the Coun-It- y Highway crew and Ray Davis, our local safety chair-man, so that a standard bi-cycle course could be used to test bicycle riding proficiency. On May 21, Brookside students will be given a test for know-ledge of rules, then their bi-cycles will be tested for saf-ety, and the students will ride the course to test their riding skills. From Mr. Poulsen's fifth grade, Danny Lamb came in first place in the school mar-ble tournament. Craig 'Miller came in second. We are sorry they didn't come in the top finals in the city. Sherry Pyper came first in the school hopscotch tourna-ment. Cherylon Liston and Jan-alen- e Snelson came in high in the school, also Dennis Olsen and Jeff Straw were high in the marble playoffs in the room and school tournament. , Mrs. LeRoy's second ' grade had a party for their mothers Friday. They sang songs for them and showed them how well they could read. They gave each mother a card. Refresh-ments were served. There were 29 mothers present and many younger brothers and sisters. It was Kathy Johnson's birth-day Sunday. Friday Miss Davis' fourth grade received a treat from the lunch ladies for being the winner in the lunch hour be- - havior contest. It has been some time since any class was a winner. We are going to try hard to keep our car mov-ing ahead in the race.
