Leo A. Crandall made the motion seconded by Dr. W. H. Sorensen. President Floyd Harmer was in charge of the meeting. The board also tabled all bids to delivery of a er sedan for use by the mainten-ance department of the district until the next meeting of the group. Motion to table the bids came from Dr. Sorensen with a second by Mr. Crandall. It was decided that janitorial supplies would be purchased on the basis of the low bid sub-ject to quality of merchandise. Glade Stone made a motion seconded by Dr. Sorensen that the clerk advertise for bids in the purchase of tires, bat-teries and anti-freez- e needed in the transportation department for next school year. The bids are to be at the office of the board on or before July 27 at 4 p.m. Claims amounting to $26,-326.- lists on which were fur-nished only to board members and the superintendent were approved for payment on a motion by Mr. Crandall second-ed by Dr. Sorensen. The new clerk, Clarence Wendell, appointed recently to take the place of Ben Isaac, attended the meeting as well as; all board members and the; superintendent. Flash Flood Puts Snow Plow To Work Tuesday The Springville area would have been pleased with a por-tion of the rain fall which re-sulted in a flash flood and rock slide on US Highway 50-- 6 east of Thistle Tuesday afternoon, resulting- in the use of the old winter snow plough. Investigating officers Owen Eeardall, Springville highway patrolman and Patrolman Bob Tasker reported that the slide occured in three places at about 3:30 p.m. stalling about a thousand cars nearly four hours. A bulldozer, grader and snow plough were used by the state road commission to clear the debris and open the high-way. The Springville-Mapleto- n area only a few miles from the flash-floo- d site, sweltered in sun which sent the thermo-meter to between 88 and 98 degrees throughout the after-noon, with little hope for even a light shower. OF MUM CKEftMt SBOOORANT v V 'weekly JBlll) A Service Of The Thor Kesearch Center For Better Farm Living "Do you have any plans avail-able for a plain, sturdy stool can make in my own shop?' queries an Indiana reader "M wife wants a stool that can bt carried around the house for use-i-reaching upper shelves of cab-inets and closets." We have sent this reader oui plan for a serviceable stool plan that is available withou; charge to other readers if you'I write to the Thor Research Cen ter. The type of stool we have de signed not only can serve as e step to reach upper shelves, bui also can be used by little tykes as a television-viewin- g seat. Sturdy stool popular wJth house wives and children. Free Only materials needed are 31 inches of 1x10 finished pine, oi the same length and width of inch plywood. 26 inches of 1x4 fir. ight flathead screws, and glue The pine or plywood will be used to make the top of the stool and the legs, while the fir will be used for cross-suppor- for top and legs You'll hasten the shaping, as sembly, and finishing of the stooJ if you use portable electric tool; circular-blad- e and jig saws, drill, and sander. Cut the wood to length and taper the sides of the legs with the circular saw Then use the jig saw to cut insert grooves for the cross-suppor- m the top of the legs and to shape the bottoms of the legs, ends of the cross-support- s, and corners of the stool top. Sand all pieces smoothly with the power sander. then glue the cross-suppor- into the slots in the legs Pre-dri- ll countersink holes into the cross-suppor- and legs, set the eight screws, and you're ready for finishing with paint or stain. You also can cover the top with floor covering or, if you plan the stool as a child's seat, you might cover the top with pad-ding and upholstery (This stool plan is available, without charge, by writing Thoi Research Center, Marengo, IU., and asking for Project No. S101.) Local Bowlers Can Be in Tourney Eight regional finalists teams from the four regions set up for the BPAA (Bowling Pro-prietors Association of Amer-ica) team handicap champion-ship will meet at Northbrook, Illinois July 18 and 19 to roll off for a prize fund of $27,200. A total of 867 teams met in the ' regional championships, nearly double the record 472 team field of last year. Interesting local angle of the tournament is that it is a tournament which the every day bowler right here in Springville might be part of since the winners come from throughout the country from just every day bowling greats. The record entry made pos-sible a total prize fund of $73,695, of which $27,200 was earmarked for national final-ists, the other going to region-al competition.
