Show Boys State Dates Set July 4-11 Sponsors Sought Preliminary plans were announced an-nounced this week by Chairman Chair-man Keith Davis for annual Boys State to be held this year at the USU, Logan, July 4 to 11. The event has previously previous-ly been held at Camp Williams. Anyone, individual or organization, organ-ization, desiring to sponsor a boy to this annual training program is urged to contact the chairman immediately. The quota this year is 350 boys ranging in age from 16 to 18 years. All applications for the training must be received through the American Legion Post No. 28, not later than June 25. Purposes or the annual Boys State is to educate the youth in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American Ameri-can citizenship and training in the practical aspects of government. gov-ernment. Senior counselors experienced in the Boys State program will supervise activities, many of the men being teachers and school administrators in private and public schools. Only boys of outstanding qualifications i n leadership, character and service should be selected, Legion officials point out. Scholarship is important im-portant but not paramount as often political leaders are not the best scholars. Boys completing the eleventh grade should be selected since they will be expected to return to furnish leadership in the school and community. |
