Show It's Halloween Time . . . Make It Safe! Parents are being asked to take special precautions to protect their trick-or-trcating youngsters on Halloween. It is suggested that costumes used at Halloween parties be flameproof and light colored for easy-night time visibility. Reflecting tape gives decorative visibility and it's a good idea to have youngsters carry flashlights on roads after dark. Costumes should not be too long, since they might trip the wearer or catch on bushes, bikes or auto wheels. Masks of the sort often worn by youngsters can often prove dangerous dang-erous both by restricting visibility and also due to the possibility pos-sibility of suffocation. A good substitute for masks is painted false faces applied with cosmetics or burnt cork. Young goblins should beware of lighted lanterns carrying carry-ing candles and should also avoid carrying sharp-pointed instruments in-struments such as pocketknives. Parents and young folks are also reminded that home-party home-party decorations should be flameproof and that adults should beware of small children "prowling" dark roads and streets, with motorists advised to take extra precautions. Home safety may be increased by keeping the porch lights on while damage can be reduced b eremoving portable port-able outdoor furniture and similar tempting items from the reach of hobgoblins. Pre-wrapping of cookies, candy and other treats for young callers on Halloween night is suggested remembering also that goblins are subject to stomach aches when they eat too many sweets. |
