The time was spent with vi-siting and singing and a pot luck lunch was enjoyed by the following: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennington, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Shurtleff and son Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Tew, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mower, Mrs. Joseph-ine Duncan, Dick Conover, Mr. and Mrs. James Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Davies of Provo; George Harmer, Mrs. Maude Fergusen, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Prestwich and Lee Ann and Kay Prestwich of Orem, and the honored guests and their sons Allan and David. Hayes whose engagement and approaching marriage to Ronald H. Thomas of Eureka is announced. Priscilla Hayes Engaged to Wed Ronald Thomas of Eureka Soon Lovely Miss Priscilla S. Hayes, who has been making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Don Curtis of Springville the past four years, will be married to Ronald H. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Thomas of Eureka on June 12. The bride-elec- t, daughter of Virginia F. and the late Sidney L. Hayes of oPrtland, Oregon, is a senior at Spring-ville High School where she is active in Pep and D.E. club affairs. Her fiancee graduated from Tintic High School and received his B.A. degree in elementary education from BYU in 1957. He is presently teaching at Eureka where they will make their home. A reception is being planned by Mr. and Mrs. Curtisj to honor the young couple in the evening following their marriage. Club Group Enjoys Evening of Music A most delightful and infor-mative program on music was enjoyed by the Ladies Literary club Thursday evening, when Mrs. Eugene Johnson and Mrs. Paul Thorn were hostesses at Barts. Mrs. Max Sumsion gave the paper on musical instruments and the places they occupy in an orchestra. To assist her, Mrs. Lewis Bird entertained with violin selections; Brent Packard explained the trumpet and gave selections and Law-rence Schreiner discused the parts which make up the clari-net and played a selection, ac-companied by his mother, Mrs. W. L. Schreiner. Mrs. Sumsion was accompan-ist for other numbers and she and Mrs. A. LeRoy Erickson gave several numbers to de-monstrate the part the piano plays in the orchestra. The program was preceded with a nicely arranged lunch-eon and later in the evening, Mrs. A. E. Jacobsen, chairman of the nomination committee read the officer list which was approved by acclamation to in-clude: Mrs. M. N. Moon, presi-dent; Mrs. Rea Straw, Mrs. Louis Johnson, secretary-treasure- r; Mrs. Eugene Johnson, program chairman. Other business was conduct-ed by the president, Mrs. G. Lowry Anderson with announ-cement of the next meeting, a Mother and Guest Day ss luncheon-progra- m at the Social Center in Spanish Fork next Tuesday evening May 12, beginning at 7 p.m. Soldier Completes Crewman Course Army Pvt. Allen K. Mur-doc- k, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Murdock, Spring-ville, completed the eight-wee- k field communications crewman course April 24 at Fort Ord, Calif. Murdock was trained in switchboard operation, wire communications, map reading, and message center organiza-tion and operation. He entered the Army in Nov. 1958 and completed basic train-ing at the fort. A 1956 graduate of Spring-ville high school, Murdock at-tended BYU. poppy prizes to Darlene Sim-mons and Johnnie Baker of Springville. Becky Turner of Springville also received first place in the district in the es-say contest. Legionnaires at District Meet Attending the District Le-gion and Auxiliary meeting at Payson Saturday evening from Springville were: Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Denis Ro-bertson, Mrs. Lela Nelson and Mrs. Hazel Roylance. DUP Camp Holds April Meeting The April meeting of DUP Camp Mountain View was held at the home of Mrs. Thelma Clark with the new captain, Afton Palfreyman, conducting the meeting. History of Israel Hoyt was given by Roka Fackrell and the lesson was given by class leader Mrs. Thelma Clark, on, "They Came with the First Company in '47." Piano selections were played by Marilyn Perry, daughter of Mrs. Clark. The next meeting will be held at the home of Miss Jen-nie Sanford on Thursday, May 14. Complimentary to Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Conover before they left on vacation Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Palfreyman and Mr. and Mrs. Blair Sargent en-tertained at a steak fry. Also Mr. and Mrs. Dave Friel gave a dinner party in their honor and also for their daughter Mary Connie. Another party for friends of the Conover's was given during the week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Child. |
