Show LETTER POSTED 32 YEARS AGO Crossed Ocean Many Times Before Delivery to Sea Captain A letter posted ut darmstad Norway Nor-way 32 years ago to Capt Thomas Nielsen of the bark Hnnnonla mud which has traveled sicrons tho Allan He to and fro many dimes In pursuit of him was delivered to Thomas Nlel Bon a carpenter til tho revenue cutter cut-ter Manhattan of tho local service says a Now York dispatch to tho St Louis Qlobo Democrat It was tho right envelope anil tho joint letter it l contained brought the mist to his eye with tho news It told ol oW friends and relatives In Norway many of whom are now dead Capt Nielsen Is now 68 years old and has been retired from the sea for many years Tho letter was from his wife Alvlner and his brother John who wrote to tell of an accident to an other brother Nicholas who had returned re-turned from a sea trip with a broken leg All three brothers are now employed em-ployed on the Manhattan and the wife now an elderly woman Is living with her husband in Brooklyn The envelope contalng the letter was covered with postmarks many of them so faded that they could not bo made out It was directed originally to Mlnotetcon Mexico in care of tho Swedish consul but had been directed so many times there was no further space and when It was returned to Onrmstad for the sixth time last Juno It had ttf bo Inclosed in an other cover cov-er Tho letter which was posted January Jan-uary 9 1876 had been opened and scaled with Mexican stamps bearing the date of 1876 |
