Show SHEEr MEN WANT DAMAGES fROM SMRTER COMPANIES Claim That Animals Were Killed as Result of Eating Food Which Had Been Poisoned by Smoke t Salt Lake City Two actions wore begun on Monday In tho United States court against smelting companies by shaopmen who claim that their animals ani-mals were killed as the result of eating < eat-Ing food on the range which had been poisoned by smelter smoke and fumes and also for damages to their land by reason of deposits thereon of poison mis matter a The two actions arc brought by tho same plaintiffs but against separate defendants In each case a total amount of damages of 1860 Is asked ask-ed In addition to 10000 punitive damages The plaintiffs In both cases are Charles J Shoup and Frederick D Jaynes doing business under the firm name of Shoup Jaynes Tho defendant In one case Is tho United States Smelting company and In tho other the Utah Consolidated Mining company It Is alleged that In tho fall tind winter of 190G07 the plaintiffs lost 300 head of sheep of a value of 1360 by reason of tho poison negligently negli-gently permitted to bo deposited on tho land and In 1908 there died 1000 sheep of the value of 4600 The land It Is claimed In each complaint has been damaged to the extent of 5000 |
