Show HISTDHY 10 DETAIL RED CROSS ACTIVITY Record of Salt Lake County Chapter Being Written for Denver. Mountain States Headquarters Headquar-ters Plans Publication of Work. Compilation of a history of ilia Salt Lake county chapter of the Ked Cross is in course of preparation at local headquarters. head-quarters. A request having come from Uenver, the mountain states headquarters headquar-ters of the Eed Cross, Mrs. W. O. Clel-and Clel-and and Mrs. Clara C. Worthington, secretary sec-retary and chairman of supplies of the Salt Lake county chapter, have commenced com-menced work on the history. They have requested chairmen of all committees to give m reports. Aliss Evon W aspe, a member of the clerical force "who has served since the beginning- of the war, is also -assisting; in the compilation. The history will be broad 111 its scope and will be divided into six divisions. The first division will be an outline of the chapter 4iistory. Mrs. "W. W. Kiter, chairman of the extension department of the lied Cross, litis been asked to write the events concerning Utah's Red Crosa work from 180S to 114. This was the original date of tho commencement commence-ment of lied Cross work in the state of Utah, as some service was performed during the Spanish-American war. The sketch will include the formation of the chapter with its early history and its geographical limits. Names Compiled. The second division will be under the heading, ' 'U'ersouncl," and will include the names of all officers and principal committee chairmen since the beginning of the war, giving tho dates they have held office, with a short statement of their standing in the community. The third division will be termed "Organization." which will include an outline of various committees, how they were organized and any special duties they had to perform. The fourth division, giving the methods meth-ods of work, will explain the phases of Red Cross activities. The fifth division, which is the most important of all, will give the record of work, starting with the first and second Red Cross drives for funds, then telling of tho first, second and third membership drives. The Red Cross shop's wonderful record rec-ord will be told in a sketch to be prepared pre-pared by Mrs. George M. Miller, former for-mer manager of the shop. Reeves, chairman of this department. Junior Red Cross work also vil be prominently .featured. Joy H. Johnson, chairman, of 'civilian relief, will give a history of the work performed per-formed by the home service department. AM Activities Given. Mrs. J. L. Frank e:ii, chairman of tho surgical dressing department, will give statistics nnd-facts concerning this branch of the mercy organization. Mrs. Worthinrjton, chairman of supplies, will tell in detail of the record of the Salt Lake' county women in helping help-ing make more than 1,537,162 articles for the Red Cross. The honor badge will bo reported by Mrs. Jeanette A. Hyde, chairman of this .committee. "Utah public health, which is the tuberculosis tu-berculosis department of the Eed Cross and also takes care of Christmas seals, will be written of by Frank W. Le Clere. The work of the instruction committee will be reported by Mrs. Robert Rob-ert C. Gemmell, and the old clothes committee, which assisted in making Utah's success in three drives, will be recorded in the pages of history by those who took charge of the drives. To Report First Meeting. As a summary, the sixth and last division, di-vision, under the heading of general mention, will be composed of the account ac-count of the first mass meeting held by the Red Cross prior to the first drive. This took place iu the Salt Lake theater in October, 191J, when 400 people peo-ple attended. As an example of the development of the organization, the second masi meeting held in the tabernacle taber-nacle in Juno", 1918, when 10.000 people were present, will be recorded. Mention Men-tion is also to be made of the immense Red Cross parade iu June. 191S, when Belgiau soldiers paraded Salt Lake streets. Closing this work of reference refer-ence will be fitting tributes arid words of appreciation to the community at large, as well as to church organizations, patriotic societies, clubs and the press, who, by universal co-operation, helped to make Red Cross work in Salt Lake county so successful. This information is expected to be sent in to the Denver office by May 15, where a complete history of the mountain states division is to be compiled, com-piled, which, it is believed, will be published. |
