Show ENGAGE IN CLASH ON BARBARY COAST SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 7. Service men were involved in two clashes with police of the "Barbary coast" last night and today. Last night policemen and naval and military provost guards had difficulty in preventing soldiers, sailors and marines from attacking William Anderson, An-derson, who was arrested and charged with shooting and seriously wounding William Smith, machinist's mate, first class, on the U. S. S. Ludlow. Tonight a crowd at a dance hall operated oper-ated y negroes administered a severe beating to Joseph Leighton, a soldier, and an unknown civilian. The police dispersed dis-persed a crowd of sailors who threatened to wreck the place. |
