Show STATE RESTS !N TOM TRIAL i Dismissal Moved; Defense Argues Indictment Not Sustained by Facts. JACKSON. Minn.. July 3. The slate completed its direct testimony today at the trial of A. C. Townley and Joseph Gilbert, leaders of the Nonpartisan league, who are charged with having- conspired con-spired to teach disloyalty while the United States was engaged in ar with Germany. Ferdinand A. Teigan, former organizer for the league, was the last witness called by the state. His testimony was cut short this morning, when Judge C. Dean refused to permit the defense to question Teigan regarding the sources of his Income since he left the employ of the Nonpartisan league. Several clashes between the attorneys for t::e state and the defense -took place before the state rested its case. Attorney George Hoke, representing the defendants, immediately moved for a dismissal dis-missal of the case, principally on the ground that the offence charged in the indictment was r.oi sustained by the testimony tes-timony introduced bv the state and that the state had failed to prove any criminal crim-inal intent upon the part of the defendants. defen-dants. After argument! upon the motion lo dismiss the charge were completed this afternoon, Judge E. C. Dean announced he would make known his decision at 9 a. m. Monday. |
