Show MlfST QUERIES HVJUUSILVER MEN The governor's office recently received a telegram from John D. Ryan, head of the war trade industries board at Washington, Wash-ington, in which he stated that England was asking- the treasury of America for one hundred million ounces of silver. Mr. Ryan wanted to know the sentiment of the governor and the producers as to this course of supplying Kngland. It is either a question of open market bidding by Kngland Kn-gland or of contract with the treasury de-pahtment. de-pahtment. The telegram was forwarded to Governor Gov-ernor Boyle, who was called to San Francisco Fran-cisco to attend a conference of the war me:al relief fund, ft It is expected that he will take the matter up direct with the producers of Nevada and the representatives representa-tives at Washington. Under the Pittrnan act the price of silver sil-ver is .set at 1 per ounce. Should a contract con-tract be entered into with the treasury at this figure, it is pointed out, either the government would lose under the contract con-tract or the silver producers would be out the difference between the market price today and the standard set by the Pitt-man Pitt-man act. Very recently word was received to the effect that unusual hoarding of silver has been carried on throughout India and that the 350.000,000 silver dollars melted by this government to help the situation has not stopped the tide.
