Show PROCLAIMS DAY OF THANKSGIVING Utah Executive Calls for Prayer and Praise on November 27. Proclamation designating Thursday, November No-vember 27, as Thanksgiving dap was issued is-sued yesterday by Harden Bennion, secretary sec-retary of state and acting governor in the absence of Governor Bamberger. It is urged that all work be laid aside for the day and that prayers be offered for peace arid prosperity, with .devout thanks for the blessings of the year. The proclamation follows: "The cycle of seasons once more has brought to us that period of the year in which it Is the custom of the American people tto turn thought toward expression expres-sion of thankfulness for the many blessings bless-ings bestowed bv our Creator. "Each -vear we are given some new demonstration of His loving kindness for which we owe grateful acknowledgment, and at this time not the least of these is the safe return to our firesides of our sons and daughters from the field of struggle between right and might. "Now. therefore, I, Harden Bennion, acting governor of the state of Utah, in accordance with custom, hallowed by the worship of our ancestors, and in willing observance of the statutes of our great state, do hereby designate and set apart Thursdav, November 27. 1919, as Thanksgiving Thanks-giving day, and urge the people of Utah to desist from unnecessary labor and, in church and home, give humble expression expres-sion to their thankfulness, and pray that wise counsels may prevail to defend us from threatening perils and that restful rest-ful peace and prosperity may remain with us during the coming year. "In testimony whereof, I have hereunto here-unto set my hand and caused to be affixed af-fixed the great seal of the state of Utah." |
