Show SHOULD REPUDIATE. The Salt Lake Federation of Labor : has set about to repair as much of the ! mischief done bv the state federation , at its recent meeting as it is possible ;to do. It will be remembered thai the state federation convention went on 'record as endorsing the soviet form of I government. The resolution supporting I the Kussian bolshevist system was adopted by the state federation in the face of a determined but helpless conservative con-servative opposition. The matter was taken vtp by the Salt Lake federation and a successful fighi was made against a proposal to approve ap-prove of the action of the state federation federa-tion in endorsing sovietism. The ap-rr ap-rr riving resolution was tabled by am almost unanimous vote. The opposition was led by A. E. Harvey, former secretary sec-retary of the state federation. Mr. Harvey indulged in some very piain talk to his colleagues. ' Eegardless of the point of view which may have actuated ac-tuated the motion indorsing the soviet form of government,'' he said, "'the fact remains that that action has jeopardized jeo-pardized the prestige cf organized labor la-bor in Utah. It is up to the Salt Lake federation and to all other bodies included in-cluded in the state organization to take the initiative and set organized labor right."" Mr. Karvey speaks the truth. So far as our knowledge poes the I'tah state I federation is the only responsible unit of the American federation which has (set itself at variance with the stand j in opposition to sovietism taken by the .'national organization. It is a distinc-ition distinc-ition which does no credit ko the cause of organized labor in Utah. The Salt Lake federation should not allow the matter to rest where it is. but put itself upon record by resolution as repudiating repudiat-ing the action of the state body. Other ' locals should do likewise. |
