THAT she might be of service to her country in this time of stress. Miss Ruby Naegle has given up a lucrative lucra-tive siiool position in Preston, Idaho. She enlisted during the past week in the student nurses' reserve in Salt LjLke and wants to be, called early for active work. Miss Naegle is the first school teacher to enlist at the Salt Lake recruiting station sta-tion for nurses. She Is not, however, the first school teacher to make personal investigation in-vestigation of the pJan and become acquainted ac-quainted with the nation's war needs as thev relate to nurses. More than fifty teachers Investigated the proposition during dur-ing the first week of the drive. Miss Naegle is the only teacher who enrolled. Tlie young woman resided with relatives rela-tives at liSO Third avenue. She Is a graduate of the University of Ftah. Prior to entering the university she taught in countrv schools. Last year she was at Preston as head of the physical education educa-tion department of Oneida academy and contracted for the same work this year. She has had two years in clinics at the Fnlversily of Utah and has also been a student of voice culture. Miss Naegle is highly enthusiastic over the prospect of getting into some sort of service for the government and considers the student nurses' reserve Just the thins lor the young women of America. Yoh( erday she expressed the opinion that the nurses' reserve Is a golden opportunity op-portunity for college women and school teachers to show their mettle and patriotism. pa-triotism. "Wo have nt last the golden opvnrtunlty we have- been seeking," she said. "At last the government is giving girls of America, a chance. For months T have viewed with envy the opportunities for ho vs. whih nothing of real servtco wr opened for girls, fihis Is not so now. The stmlent nursesreserve offers everything every-thing and is just as much a national service ser-vice as any branch open to young men." Miss Naegle makes an urgent appeal to college girls of Utah to enlist In the student stu-dent nurses' reserve. She urges them to be as pat riot I c :ls the men who have donned the khaki and to show their patriotism pa-triotism by encaging with the government govern-ment for nurse service. In the direct appeal she says: College girls of Utah, let's be ecpl to the college men, who do not hesitate hesi-tate to offer all they have to give. Now that the opportunityy has como and our country has ev inced a need for us, let "h be up and doing and prove that higher education for women wom-en tends loward efficiency and willing service. I, for one. offer all 1 can give to the government, ami I hope that the time when 1 shall be called for active service is not too far off.
