Show HUNS BELIEVED TO HAVE PLANNED FURTHER RETREAT WITH THE AMERICAN ARMY ON THE AISNE-MARNE FRONT, Aug. 1, noon. By the Associated Press) The Germans used less artillery late yesterday yester-day against the attacking forces on this front, depending more upon their machine ma-chine gunners for defending their lines. This fact, coupled with sfories of prisoners pris-oners and deserters, tends to strengthen the belief that they are planning a withdrawal with-drawal to new positions along the river Vcsle. A deserter who came into the lines last night declared that orders had been issued is-sued for a scries of relrogarlc movements move-ments until Fismes, on the Vcsle, had been reached. Except for minor en demerits, there was only artillery fire along the line up to noon today, and that was comparatively compara-tively light. |
