Show Several Manufacturing Concerns Are Menaced When Fire Is Discovered Discov-ered Under Corner of the Farrell Warehouse. AXLE WASTE USED TO START BLAZE Quick Work by Man Who Sees Flame Frustrates Frus-trates Plot to Wipe Out Entire District, Is Belief Be-lief of Investigators. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, July 7. Using oil-satnrated waste packing, taken from the journal boxes of three freight cars, German agents are believed to have planned to wipe out by fire the entire manufacturing manufactur-ing district of Ogden. The fire was discovered dis-covered in its incipiency and extinguished extin-guished by George Faulkner early this morning. Tne incendiary torch was planted in a district in which there are several factories' now employed on government contracts. The belief of the police is that German agents, or spies, aimed directly di-rectly at the destruction of these plants. Faulkner, who resides on Wall avenue, ave-nue, near the factories, reached home soon after midnight and before retiring rested on the front porch of his residence. resi-dence. His attention was attracted to a tongue of flame flickering in the rear of the Farrell Grain & Flour company's com-pany's warehouse. He investigated and found that the blaze sprang from a wooden box in which had been placed a considerable quantity of packing. SEVERAL CONCERNS ARE MENACED. . Progress of the fire was slow and only a small pail of water was required to extinguish it. The wooden box proved to be the property of the Browning Brown-ing Auto company, and had been stolen from that concern's premises to aid in the scheme of destruction. Besides the Farrell Grain & l-lour company there are in the district a number of other important commercial institutions. Among these are the substation sub-station of the Utah. Power & Light eompany, Continental Oil company tank yard, Everfresh Food company, American Amer-ican Can company, Goddard Packing company, Becker Manufacturing company com-pany and the warehouse of the Crane company. Police investigators declare that they have unearthed plenty of evidence that the diabolical plot was aimed primarily at the destruction of the plants employed em-ployed in government work. There is evidence, the police say, that the intention inten-tion of the plotters was to get the fire under way at an hour when there would be least likelihood of detection until it should have reached an uncontrollable stago. , TORCH IS LAID FOR SLOW FIRE. The torch itsejf was laid to start slowly, the box containing it being planted iu such a manner that it would communicate directly with inflammable uiaterial utilized in the construction of tho tiour company's place of business. busi-ness. Had this building caught fire there is little chance that the blaze could have been checked before it had reached the stago of the most destructive destruc-tive and costly conflagration this city has ever experienced.
