| Show mm ul hf captured by our big campaigners VENT hviid J cagnon flab conventions and arc Sc etiny enquirer sept we left ogden this morning for hooper 12 miles southwest of ogden at 10 a m we commenced our meeting lion H M wells made the opening speech followed by alien and cannon the audience was vi ry attentive giving frequent applause to each speaker As usual the quartette enlivened the meeting with some of their selections after dinner we proceeded on our journey to west weber by buggy a distance of 13 miles where wo arri vedat 3 we found the people of this place had turned out en masse the brass band was out to greet us all giving us a rousing recep tion as we drove up after a couple of selections by the quartette lion H M wells addressed the audience at the conclusion of his speech hons F J cannoa and 0 E alien each talked one hour during mr cannons address he asked the question do you wish to endorse the administration of grover cleveland no cried out several voices in the audience 1 I thought not said mr cannon and I 1 do not believe the people of utah will endorse it either but by their votes will repudiate the bond issuing democracy j as soon as they can get to the polls and cast their ballots from west weber we proceeded to ogden 7 miles distance arriving there at at 7 the ogden brass band appeared on the streets and the enthusiasm ran bighon every corner you could hear the cry heber M wella heber M wells frank J cannon C E alien the matter with bishop hes all right at the frank J cannon club marched up main street strong F J cannon bieber M wells was their slogan and they kept it up without cessation until the opera house was reached this club occupied the stage in the grand opera house at 8 county chairman dix called the vast audience to order and presented mayor C E brough for chairman of the meeting mr brough came forward and made a liappa after which he introduced the next governor of utah the hou bieber M wells who was given an ovation many rising in their seats and shouting H M wells II 11 M wells after silence was restored mr wells made a very neat little speech at the closure of which he was cheered to the echo the glee club from provo was announced by the chairman after singing their opening pieces an encore was given the audience wanted more but the chairman thought two selections at one time was enough and refused to grant any more C E alien was introduced as our next congressman from the state of utah A more logical speech has not been mado on his tour than this one the quartette was again called for and rendered two more of their selections hon frank J cannon then came forward and tha ovation given him was grand he is indeed the favored eon of weber county for one hour and over he poured hot shot into the administration of grover cleveland we hold 3 more meeting in the county to morrow when we leave for morgan county sc |
