Hopes of a speedy general gen-eral pence captivated traders today on 'change here and made war prices move downward like magic. After continuous heavy selling and an extreme break of "Hc, the corn market closed excited 3W to 5c net lower, with October nt Sl.S.i; to $1.36 and November nt $1.33fe to $1.33:U. Oats shewed a setback of lyc to 2r-tc In provisions, the result varied from a $1 decline to a 15c advance. Belief that the corn market was far too high on a peace basis dominated the pit ns soon as business got well under way. At first t he chief Influence was the news that the signing of an armistice had made Bulgaria's surrender complete. This coutiugnecy bad been largely discounted beforehand, however, and a quick rally followed sharp breaks with which the market opened. Then came word of unexpectedly unex-pectedly rapid forward sweeps by the eilente allies, and signs that a peace move by Turkey, If not by Austria, might apparently soon be looked for. Pressure to liquidute holdings now assumed big proportions, and throughout the rest of the day ail support was lacking except from shorts who bad profits.
